Again I must remind you that<\/span>
\n A Dog’s a Dog \u2014 A CAT’S A CAT.<\/span>
\n With Cats, some say, one rule is true:<\/span>
\n Don’t peak tillyou are spoken to.<\/span>
\n Myself, \u00cc do not hold I with that –<\/span>
\n I say, you should ad-dress a Cat.<\/span>
\n But always keep in mind that<\/span>
\n he Resents familiarity.<\/span>
\n I bow, and taking off my hat,<\/span>
\n Ad-dress him in this form: O CAT!<\/span>
\n But if he is the Cat next door,<\/span>
\n Whom I have often met before<\/span>
\n (He comes to see me in my flat)<\/span>
\n I greet him with an OOPSA CAT!<\/span>
\n I’ve heard them call him James Buz-James<\/span>
\n But we’ve not got so far as names.<\/span>
\n Before a Cat will condescend<\/span>
\n To treat you as a trusted friend,<\/span>
\n Some little token of esteem<\/span>
\n Is needed, like a dish of cream;<\/span>
\n And you might now and then supply<\/span>
\n Some caviare, or Strassburg Pie,<\/span>
\n Some potted grouse, or salmon paste<\/span>
\n – He’s sure to have his personal taste.<\/span>
\n (I know a Cat, who makes a habit<\/span>
\n Of eating nothing else but rabbit,<\/span>
\n And when he’s finished, licks his paws<\/span>
\n So’s not to waste the onion sauce).<\/span>
\n A Cat’s entitled’s to expect<\/span>
\n These evidences of respect.<\/span>
\n And so in time you reach your aim,<\/span>
\n And finally call him by his NAME.<\/span>
\n So this is this, and that is that:<\/span>
\n And there’s how you AD-DRESS A CAT. <\/span><\/p>\n
